A critical review of energy planning models for the sustainable development at company level

Sharing is caring :

According to a new paper one of Spine tools performed the best out of some other models in terms of technical features and usability

Private companies are expected to lead the way in the transition to renewable and sustainable energy by investing in green technologies. However, this transition involves considering long-term factors like fuel and electricity price increases and the availability of innovative technologies. Mathematical models can aid companies in developing long-term energy strategies.

A recent paper entitled “Critical review of energy planning models for the sustainable development at company level” by Laveneziana et al. discussed energy system modelling tools. These are assessed according to their suitability for use at the company scale. Unlike most reviews focusing on distributed energy systems, this one concentrated on open-source optimization tools that support investment decisions.

Amongst other multi-scale tools, our SpineOpt strucks the best balance, offering comprehensive long-term planning with high technological detail and very good usability. According to the authors, SpineOpt is not only open-source and free, but also exhibits unique features for studying highly detailed systems.
